My Response : A House within the House
The project integrates the activity of a sculptor working from old bicycles, a typical object in the Flamish and Dutch culture.
The sculptor's activity is nested with the three rooms guest-house through a "twin screw" staircase that maintains the privacy between the hosts and the guests.
The assignement consisted in designing a guest-house of three to four bedrooms on an define plot and to associate it a cultural activity to it.
The sculpturs progress though three rooms.
Ground Floor : the workshop where the bikes are disassembled
2nd Floor : the main workshop benefiting from natural light from the North
3rd Floor : an exhibition terrace overlooking the nearby park
The materiality follows the fonctions of the differents volumes of the house.
The concrete ground floor contains the service areas.
The wooden box contains the mixed activities.
The zinc cube contain the hosts area, the main workshop and their room above.
